BRIG S BANERJEE

Brig Somnath Banerjee, an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun was commissioned into the Army Air Defence Regiment on 17 Dec 1983. A military professional with proven excellence, the Brigadier has 34 years hands on experience from grass root level to the flag rank level in the field of Air Defence and Defence Logistics Management. He has the distinction of serving as an Instructor at the Army Air Defence College Gopalpur and at the Indian Military Academy Dehradun.

Brig Banerjee commanded his AD Regt in Nov 2003 and after a successful command was nominated to attend the Higher Air Command Course at the College of Air Warfare Secunderabad. He thereafter went on to command an Air Defence Bde before taking over as Commandant Army Air Defence Centre at Gopalpur. Brig Banerjee also holds the distinction of having been the Commandant of Selection Centre Kapurthala from 2017 to 2019 where he interviewed more than 6000 candidates.

Brig Banerjee has done his Masters Course from Cranfield University United Kingdom. He is an M Phil from Osmania University Hyderabad and MSc (Defence Studies) from Madras University. He has topped almost all Army courses and is the proud recipient of the Director General’s Trophy and Silver Gun Trophy in Gunnery Course and Young Officer’s Course respectively.

He is a fitness enthusiast and has a penchant for trekking, cycling and running half marathons.
