Lt Gen AS Nandal, PVSM, AVSM, SM (Retd)
Lt Gen AS Nandal PVSM, AVSM, VSM was commissioned into the 5/5 Gorkha Rifles in year1974. He is a highly decorated career military officer with vast leadership experience in the Indian Army. The General Officer has a keen understanding of the complexities of large-scale distributed operations and complex change management exercises. He also has an in-depth insight of inter organizational operations, including multi nation projects. He also has the unique distinction of having represented India in various conferences including Conference on Disarmament at Geneva.
The General Officer has held many prestigious Staff and Command assignments. He has the distinction of heading the largest operational formation of the Indian Army, comprising of over 100,000 men, responsible for operational readiness as well as resource and logistics planning. He can be credited for implementing organization wide transformation projects focusing on operational efficiency, streamlining ground logistics and optimization of land and infrastructure use and also has the unique distinction of having been on deputation to Ministry of External Affairs handling bi lateral/multilateral engagements with various countries on Anti-Terrorism operations, Trans-border Connectivities and International Security Affairs. The General Officer also has the distinction of having headed the Army’s frontline training establishment The Infantry School Mhow which was responsible for training over 8000 officers and men yearly, including 400 from foreign armies.
