Lt Gen Gurdeep Singh, Param Vishisht Sewa Medal, Ati Vishist Sewa Medal was commissioned into 8 Kumaon Regiment on 11 Jun 1977. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy Khadakvasla, he has served in varied terrains pan India in various Command, Staff and Instructional appointments which includes Brigade Major, Colonel General Staff, HQ IGAR (North), Colonel General Staff (Planning) at a Command Headquarters, Brigadier General Staff at a Corps Headquarters, and Instructional appointments at Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, IMTRAT Bhutan, CIJW School and at the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington.
The General Officer commanded his Battalion in the Siachen Glacier, the highest battle field in the world. Subsequently, he commanded an Infantry Brigade deployed on the Line of Control and Anti Infiltration Obstacle System. Thereafter, as the General Officer Commanding (Victor Force), he excelled in Counter Insurgency Operations. On successful completion of command, he was posted as Additional Director General (International Co-operation).
The General Officer also has the distinction of having commanded the Infantry School, Mhow, a training institution responsible for the training of over 8000 Officers and men yearly, including 400 from foreign armies. The General officer was appointed Chief of Staff of a Command Headquarters from where he superannuated in year 2017.
